About

Bikes For Every Body – Home of The Buddy Bike invites SportsAbility fans to join us for some adaptive cycling! Adaptive cycling is riding bicycles built with alternative structure or modified and adapted to fulfill the specific needs of rider. With adaption options and a variety of available equipment and accessories, there is a bicycle for everyone.

Depending upon the type of adaptive bicycle being used, therapeutic benefits of riding adaptive bicycles may include:

  • Provides physical activity – combats obesity
  • Strengthens core muscles for stability
  • Improves balance
  • Exercises reciprocal leg movements
  • Improves motor planning and gross motor skills
  • Provides visual and tactile stimulation
  • May improve full body sensory awareness
  • Helps improve attention and focus
  • Encourages socializing and community activity
  • Multi-user bikes encourage teamwork, verbal communication

We will meet in Palm Beach County parks for safe, off-road cycling. Depending on the number of registrants, we may either ride as a group around the park or provide shorter individual rides. We have chosen 2 beautiful parks for families to enjoy.

All adult riders must sign a release and provide a driver license which will be returned after your ride. We will bring demo bicycle helmets but encourage riders to bring their own if they have them. All riders under age 16 must wear bicycle helmets.

While cycling is an inclusive and multi-disability sport, we have a limited number of bikes so before you register, please contact Shelley at [email protected] or 786.489.2453 to make sure we have an appropriate bicycle for your needs. Here is a list of the available bicycles along with a suitability description.

  • The Buddy Bike – A rear steering tandem bicycle that places the smaller rider in front. It holds up to 380 pounds. It is best suited for riders with cognitive disabilities, low muscle tone, sight impairment and other disabilities that would prevent them from riding a bike safely on their own.

  • Kidz Tandem – A rear steering tandem bicycle that also places the smaller rider in front. While the Buddy Bike can accommodate 2 adults, the Kidz Tandem is more suited for children. They will outgrow the bike at about 5’ and 100 lbs.

  • Eco Delta Recumbent Trike – A semi-upright trike providing a stable and comfortable ride for adult riders. Great for seniors and riders with balance issues who may be unable to manage a 2-while bicycle.

  • Glide Cycle – A running bike that provides weightless training. An excellent bike for ex-runners who may have arthritis and joint issues, or those who may be recovering from injuries.

  • OPair Wheelchair Bike – NOT AVAILABLE yet. We may bring this bike soon. Please let use know if you are interested. Allows wheelchair-bound people to ride a bicycle with an able-bodied rider by using installed wheelchair seat. Transfer is necessary.
